In a bid to attract top talent, a blind opera singer from Australia is earning $1.5 million a season as a top opera star.
Tobias Pertman, 33, made his debut as a blind performer at the Australian Opera House last year, appearing in the hit musical The Last Unicorn.
He was the only performer in the company and was named a Rising Star performer in 2015.
He has also performed at other venues in the US and Europe.
He will be a regular performer at Opera Melbourne, which runs the Royal Opera House.
He will also perform at the Royal Shakespeare Company, which operates the London Theatre and Royal Albert Hall.
Last year, he became a member of the International Opera Association, a professional association that promotes and rewards the best performing opera singers around the world.
Pertman will also appear at the Opera Melbourne’s World Premiere of The Last Us on June 18, 2019.
