The Met Opera is streaming its newest opera, Met Opera Streaming, online for the first time, from its studios in London.
It was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall and will be released on demand on Tuesday.
The live broadcast will be available on the Met Opera website and on demand via Met Opera’s online subscription service.
The opera will be streamed live in about 1.2 million homes in the U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and Sweden.
Met Opera CEO Tim Clark said the new show, which features new songs by American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande, is a “modern take on opera” that is being done in a new way.
“It’s an entirely new production and an entirely different approach to the Met,” Clark said.
“We’re not just adapting the music to an older format; we’re actually adapting it to an entirely modern way.”
Met Opera Streaming will be shown in its entirety for the next two weeks, Clark said, but only at a select number of venues and on limited demand. “
What we’re trying to do is to provide people with something that is as relevant as it possibly can be, and is free to use and share, and that’s what we hope will appeal to people who are new to opera.”

It will be on repeat from January 3 through February 10.
“The idea was to try and capture the zeitgeist of opera in a different way, to try to create a more dynamic experience, which was our goal,” Clark told CNN.
“And in this instance, we’re achieving both.
We’ve done a very unique job of creating a new experience that is completely new and different from anything we’ve done before.”
Met in a studio at the RHA, London, England, the opera will begin with a dramatic new introduction by the singer-singer Ariana, followed by an introduction by a soloist.
“You know, this is what I want to tell you: The first act will be Ariana’s most ambitious performance ever,” Clark says.
“She is going to be so incredible and you are going to feel the power of that and see her perform it for the very first time.
After that, the Met will take viewers through the lives of the opera house’s employees. “
The audience will be really, really excited,” he added.

“I think that’s going to go really well,” Clark continued.
“People are going do the best they can, and we’ll be able to keep people watching.
And you’re going to see them getting more and more into the opera and more and better into it.
And it’s not just the actors.
The audience will really enjoy it.”
Met Opera will be simulcast on Met Opera.com, and a Met Opera Live podcast will be provided in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.
