President Donald Trump on Sunday said he’s “deeply troubled” by leaks that undermine the intelligence community’s reputation and called for a bipartisan review of intelligence agencies’ practices.
The leaks “tarnish our country’s reputation, we don’t deserve it,” Trump told NBC’s “Meet the Press” in response to a question about the leak of the NSA documents.
“I think the leaks are unfairly tarnished our countrys reputation, I think they’re unfair to our intelligence community, I don’t think they deserve to be leaked,” Trump said.
Trump has repeatedly attacked the NSA and its Director, Mike Rogers, over the leaks.
The president has also expressed his disapproval of leaks to the press.
“It’s very, very unfair to the intelligence and law enforcement agencies that work so hard to keep us safe,” Trump tweeted last week.
The White House has said the leak is coming from a “third party,” though the Trump administration has not confirmed the source.
Rogers has not commented publicly on the leaks, though in a speech last week, he called the leaks “the source of much embarrassment” to the United States.
Roger has previously called the reports damaging to the countrys intelligence community.
In a statement to NBC News last week after the leaks were published, Rogers said the information was “not classified,” adding that he and other officials “are deeply concerned” by them.
Trump also slammed the leaks on Saturday, telling NBC’s Chuck Todd that he has been briefed on them.
“We have not had the full facts of this, we have not even had a chance to investigate,” he said.
“So this is a very big deal, a very, big deal for our country.”
“This is the kind of information that would have gone out and it’s not a situation that we would like to see,” he added.
“And we have to have the full and complete truth and the whole truth.”
Trump on Sunday appeared to take a shot at Rogers over his handling of the leaks during an interview with Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly.
Trump said Rogers is a “very strong guy” and said that Rogers should be held accountable for the leaks if he doesn’t “make the right decisions.”
“It was the same old story, he got caught up in politics and it went out to all the other people, like he was going to be a hero,” Trump added.
